If you have the time you can set up a website yourself for either not very much money
or free.
Just beware of the following potential pitfalls and you will be fine.
•
Make sure you pages are set out in a straightforward manner and that your website
makes sense (get somebody else to check it over for you before publishing).
•
Don’t try and get too clever with fancy sounds that come on when a visitor lands on
your page. You may think it sounds great, but to somebody else it is a distraction
and they will more than likely leave promptly.
•
Don’t make the pages too busy with lots of different banners and pictures
(especially the homepage). As the Meercats say keep it “Shimple”.
•
Don’t set your text with too much of the following: italics or bold characters and
especially make sure words are not all capitals (UPPERCASE).
•
Avoid using too many colours in your web site: Keep the colour scheme of your
web site limited to a couple of colours and keep it consistent across your site unless
you want to denote some major section.
•
If it’s your business do you want to spend time learning and creating a website,
should you be focusing on your business more?
•
Don’t put counters on your website, nobody (other than you) is interested. Do get
some free analytics software onto your site, this will let you see how many people
are visiting your site and other interesting information.
